Orthopedic (meaning involving the muscles and skeleton) Surgery includes not only fixing broken bones but also the repair of the tendons and ligaments that keep everything connected.

Joint injuries are common in large breed and athletic dogs. One of the more common surgeries needed is stabilization of the knee after injury to the cruciate ligament. Dr. Howland has done more than 200 of these procedures.

Each case needing any orthopedic surgery of course needs a thorough examination by the doctor, often including x-rays, and as each case is different our recommendation will vary depending on the degree of the damage and unique characteristics of each patient.
