Defy, Precocious, Cocoa, Lady, Bridget, and Square

I just wanted to add my comments and compliments to the hospital and Dr. Howland.

Dr. Howland has always made time for me and I'm not an easy pet parent.  He has done wonderful things for my animals and to keep me calm as a pet parent.  He works with me when emergencies arise and makes sure I know all my options.  He never gives false hope.

Thanks to Dr. Tim and the wonderful staff at your hospital my 2 service dogs~Defiance and Precocious are healthy and happy.  Both were runts and came from abusive homes.  Defiance is a healthy, happy male.  Precocious now walks and is a strong little girl.  She has birth defects that we work with and Dr. Tim has been a great doctor for her.

I appreciate the time and effort the staff at your hospital has given myself and my animals over the past almost 9 years.  I can't say enough good about Dr. Howland.  Bless all of you for your patience with me and my tempermental "children".

Peepo the Cat

Peepo, our cat, considered to be the “difficult child” in our large menagerie of pets, is kind of spoiled and not very Doctor friendly.  Yet we never have to worry that her “personality” will get in the way of her receiving excellent care from the staff at North Cascade Veterinary Hospital, though she has certainly tested their patience we know!

When Peepo came down with an unknown virus, Dr. Howland worked day and night, as did the staff, to keep her alive until a combination of treatments could be found to start her on the road to recovery.  It was a very long couple of weeks, and during her quarantined stay we were always made welcome when we came to visit our “child” and our constant phone call check ups on her were always answered promptly and with caring.  Dr. Howland’s persistence carried us when it seemed like Peepo was losing her battle and he kept us optimistic that he could and would find the right combination of drugs.

Peepo is thriving today and while she will always be a difficult patient we know that no matter what her care will always be top notch, give or take an attempted bite or scratch on her part!  Thanks to the whole staff for always being there for her and all of our other pets.

A Snake’s Story

My name is “Cinder” and I am a 5 foot long Corn Snake.  Recently I became very ill and my Mom took me to see Dr. Tim Howland at North Cascade Veterinary Hospital.  Dr. Howland examined me and found that I had pneumonia which is very serious for me because, as my Mom learned, snakes only have one lung.

The doctor had my Mom bring me in every three days for shots (because Mom was too afraid to give them to me herself!) and after three weeks I was feeling much better.  Dr. Howland also gave my Mom some tips about proper temperatures and humidity levels in my home environment so once I got better, I was able to stay healthy and strong and now I don’t have to have those shots anymore!

I am so happy there is a place like North Cascade Veterinary Hospital that takes care of creatures like me.

Sincerely,
Cinder, the snake & owner Cindy Reynolds

Abby the Persian

The news was not what we had hoped.  Our wonderful Persian, Abby, had thyroid hyperplasia, a common form of cancer.  Dr. Howland performed the delicate surgery to remove the nodules without damaging the adjacent parathyroids, not once but three times during her long life.  He gave her the nickname “WBC”, (World’s Best Cat), and to us she was.

Abby lost her long battle two days before Christmas, 2000.  We went through the same rituals we all go through after losing a precious pet; Never again.  No pet could fill the void she left.  Then we met a tiny Shih Tzu puppy. Strangely he was born on what would have been  Abby’s twentieth birthday.  Of-course we brought him home and of-course we named him Tim, after the WBV (World’s Best Vet)!

Baby

When Baby came as a stray to our home he was sick, covered with battle wounds and lice.  When I was finally able to catch him I called Dr. Howland and he said to bring him right in.  He confirmed my worst fears; Baby was every bit as sick as I thought he was.  He said he would do everything he could but didn’t hold out a lot of hope.  After one week he was a completely different cat! Although he will never be completely well, he will have a full and happy life.

It’s all thanks to the care of Dr. Howland and the staff at North Cascade Veterinary Hospital.  Thank you all for my pretty “Baby”.

Gibson the Cockatiel

We met “Doc” Howland for the first time on September 30, 1998.  We had just heard about him and this was our last ditch effort.  Gibson is a pied yellow cockatiel, was a pet shop bird, and had a respiratory condition and only one leg!  Our own veterinarian had suggested we do what the pet shop was intending and put him down.

I said nothing about the death knell to Doctor Howland.  He examined Gibson, asked some questions, did some thinking, asked a few questions and proceeded with a diagnosis and treatment plan. Nothing about death. We followed the treatment plan to the letter, calling the office with questions and to report the current condition.  Gibson started getting better.  His nares (bird talk for “nostrils”) cleared, he could breathe and had stopped sneezing.  Gibson was fine!  Over the years Gibson has repeated the respiratory problem and “Doc” has repeated the treatment.

Gibson will be seven (7) years old in May of 2004.  We call Gibson’s life a success story.  Thank you Dr. Howland!

Teddy the “Peke”

We have an adorable 13 year old Pekinese named Teddy.  In February we took him in for a dental exam as his breath was foul, he was cranky and he’d stopped eating hard foods and treats.  He needed a dental and Dr. Howland ended up pulling four teeth during the course of the cleaning.  Two of his teeth were so bad it affected his sinuses.  The surgery ended up taking a little longer than usual and his little old body got chilled.  We later learned that Tammy, the veterinary technician, spent the remainder of her day holding him snuggly in her arms while he slowly recovered from the anesthesia, to make sure that he was warm enough!

Teddy is now back to his usual sweet tempered playful self and is eating again with enthusiasm!  Our special thanks goes to all of you for the care that he received!
